The sparks flew the afternoon of my first real "I hate my job" day at work.
"Mom, I am going to seriously write a book. It is about women who have to deal with men, and it is called Bitter."
It was a rough day to say the least.
I changed the name of the book, but thankfully, kept the idea.
My book is called The Garden.
Why?
I wanted to have a collection of testimonies. Something that took me back to sitting on my bedroom floor reading one of the Chicken Soup for the Soul books. I remember reading these short stories over and over - feeling so much of the emotion behind the author's voice. I could not relate to any of these stories, and yet the style of writing put me in their shoes in a way I could not explain.
In The Garden, you will meet women who have been blindsided by their femininity in ways that are shocking, but not all that surprising. They feel defeated by the way the world looks at them and the way that businesses treat them, and yet they refuse to lose. They expect the world to be as sweet as they are, and still life finds a way to leave a sour taste in their mouth. From Poppy and Daisy to Jasmine and Rose, these women will tell their stories in a way that makes you want to hug them tight and say "me too."
So if you are looking for a place to find solidarity and plant your feet firmly among other not so delicate flowers, come to The Garden.
